This thematic report presents the first baseline for displacement risk associated with sudden-onset disasters in the countries of the Greater Horn of Africa with the ultimate aim of reducing future displacement.
Latest figures from IDMC estimate that more than 19.3 million people were forced to flee their homes by disasters in 100 countries in 2014. Hundreds of thousands more are still displaced following disasters in previous years.
IDMC organised a training workshop in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council and the AU Commission to promote the ratification and the implementation of the Kampala Convention.
The briefing paper highlights need to take into account regional dynamics in central Africa and to provide more timely funding and explores potential areas for cross-border learning.
