Harnessing Development and Climate Finance to Address Internal Displacement in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change

Wednesday 5 February 2025

10:00 to 12:30, followed by a light lunch

Varembé Conference Centre (CCV)

Rue de Varembé 9, 1202 Genève

This event will present lessons from the recent IDMC-ADB report, Harnessing Development Financing for Solutions to Displacement in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change, and will broaden the context from the report’s Asia Pacific focus to opportunities in other regions.

The Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) are hosting the event together to discuss concrete ways that development finance can help affected governments address internal displacement through prevention, response and solutions. It will look at current development and climate finance for disaster displacement, what is working, and the challenges still to overcome.

Participants will hear from both the supply and demand sides of the discussion, including voices from governments, development banks and climate funds from different regions in an effort to identify concrete steps for governments to secure financial resources to address internal displacement linked with disasters and climate change.

This in-person event will feature an interactive expert discussion followed by a light networking lunch to further the connections between participants.
