When conflict, violence or disasters force people to flee their homes, it threatens their lives, their futures and their country’s progress. This is true even if, and sometimes especially, when they stay within the borders of their country.
The number of people living in internal displacement doubled to 75.9 million people between 2014 and 2023. In the face of last year’s devastating political and climatic instability across the globe, the figures for 2024 are poised to break more records. Growing global challenges and shrinking aid budgets means finding effective, lasting responses has never been more urgent – and the data to inform them never more valuable.
The Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID) is the authoritative source for annual data and analysis on the state of internal displacement at the global, regional and national levels. It presents the latest displacement trends, examines drivers and impacts and highlights solutions available to local and national governments and their partners.
In addition to the data and analysis and more than ten spotlights on key displacement situations, the GRID’s tenth edition will explore policy options for addressing internal displacement and how to finance these efforts. It will also provide insights into the processes and partnerships that produce the reliable data that is essential to informing sustainable solutions and securing the funds to move them into action.
IDMC will publish GRID 2025 on 13 May 2025.
