Unstoppable Global Warming: Increasing Climatic Loss, Damage and Human Mobility
Side-event at COP29
15 November 2024
15.00-16.30 AZT
As the world fails to rein in emissions and limit warming to 1.5°C, weather-related disasters are compounding, driving displacement and overwhelming communities. Devastating floods in Spain, monsoons in South Asia, and recurrent cyclones in Bangladesh reveal the human toll of delayed climate action. The upcoming COP29 negotiations are pivotal to addressing the critical gaps in resilience, adaptation, and loss and damage finance to support displaced populations. Speakers will discuss how human mobility can be addressed through the different negotiation streams and will share their demands for action to better support displaced populations through access to sufficient climate finance, capacity building and policy development.
