IDMC Severity Assessments 2024

IDMC’s Severity Assessment uses data from REACH Initiative's Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessments to shed light on the living conditions of IDPs in contrast to non-displaced households. The assessment is structured in four dimensions: Safety & Security, Standards of Living, Livelihoods & Housing, and Civic & Social Rights.

How do I navigate the dashboard?

  • The 'Home' tab is the main page of the dashboard. Here you can access the analysis for each country and across the 4 domains.
  • Choose a dimension from the left-hand menu to access the assessment.
  • Once a dimension is selected, choose the country to view the assessment results. Explore further analysis within each of the dimension pages using the menu on the left-hand side.
  • The 'Dataset' and 'Methodology' tabs contain the raw dataset and methodological note available for download.
  • The map shows the countries where assessments were conducted in the selected year. Toggle between the years to explore the geographic coverage.

What additional analysis is available?

  • Once you have selected a dimension from the left-hand menu and chosen a country, you can filter the results by ‘Locations assessed’ to view the sub-national results.
  • To explore the additional analysis by displacement factors and household characteristics, click the button below ‘Explore further analysis’ in the bottom-left menu
  • Select an option from the ‘Further analysis’ drop-down menu, explore the way different displacement factors and household characteristics influence the severity of conditions for an internally displaced household.
  • The options include: Sex of household head, disability status, presence of children, cause of displacement, duration of displacement, number of times displaced, and camp or non-camp residence. Not all options are available for all countries.
